Do you have a VW Golf?
« on: August 16, 2005, 07:54:01 PM »
I am presenting a number of cases for a forensic conference in September here in London. These are cases that I was involved with in SA and they all involve gunshot victims. Anyway one of the cases involves a man and a woman who were seated in a VW Golf that was stationary alongside the curb when a single shot was fired through the passenger window at a 45 degree angle. The shot missed the passenger but struck the driver. The X-ray and wound findings are very helpful in reconstructing the final trajectory of the bullet and I intend to make a graphic that demonstrates this clearly. Now the Golf in question was an older GTI, not newer than this one.
I need two photographs of a right-hand drive Golf, one from the front and one isometric (front passenger corner, all windows wound up). It would be better if the car was parked alongside the curb (passenger side towards the curb) in a nondescript area (like a residential area, not a parking lot). If somebody has a left-hand drive Golf, I can use that picture in a pinch (I'll L-R reverse it and the number plate is going to be mosaiced anyway) but the passenger door must be curbside.
Of course I'll pay for these photos...I just need digitals, 3 megapixel or better.
Does anyone here have a Golf or a friend with a Golf? It's two snaps, and £10 in the post.

(In case you are wondering, I don't get paid to talk at the conference and I can't make money off those Golf photos). I just don't want to use official pictures from the VW site or from a Golf car owners club.

@ Odin

I've been having a look around good ol' London but there aren't many of these Golfs around. I've seen one or two newer Golfs but due to the cramped parking here I can't photograph them without getting a few other cars in the pic too. I need someone with a bit of space (probably not in London) to get the photos. Also, I was checking my notes again and the Golf involved was more likely a MKI or MKII (older than the one you advise is a MKIII).

Ja, IIRC the large VW plant in Port Elizabeth used to churn out Golfs like nobody's business. They were exported too. The Golf is very popular in South Africa and people tend to hold onto those. It isn't really the number one car in terms of a hijacker's target (that is the BMW) but as you know, there are a great many shootings involving the occupants of cars in South Africa.

I found a free Lightwave object of a Golf III online, and I can import that into Cinema4D on the PC and add the trajectory lines onto that. It is not ideal (there is no interior for the car so I'll have to make the top of the dash and the steering wheel) but it will have to do.
