Sin City
« on: June 07, 2005, 06:38:37 PM »
I just saw it here in Camden Town (it has only been out here in London for a few days now).

Well...phew...what an opening scene. Very good soundtrack too, I'll be getting it just as soon as possible.

The film: I enjoyed immensely. I noticed a few people not getting into the whole black-and-white deal (colour splashes here and there) but I thought it worked very well for the film and possibly avoided a few censorship headaches too. I can't see some of those scenes going through unedited without the luminous white blood effect.

The way that the stories were told kind of reminded me of Pulp Fiction. There are three main plots and one sub-plot and some of them cross paths briefly. It's a very violent film, very dark, very gritty with not much foul language and nudity. Yet it deserves its 18 rating I can tell you.
Not for the faint-hearted. It is gruesome action all the way.
Excellent cast choice...my only complaint is that the stunning women working for Gail were not given more screen time: I could see potential in the character Dallas (played by Patricia Vonne) sexually abusing poor old Marv when he was tied up, for instance.
But anyway...great film if you can gel with the cinematography. The scenes with 'Kevin' were outstanding.

Ja, Sin City is definitely not a movie you take a bird to see. It's for a group of guys or just you on your own. I honestly can't see many women enjoying it: it appeals directly to all that is male, violent, gritty and that which thrives on revenge.

@ Blobzie

I'm surprised you enjoyed Sin City, but then again you are full of surprises  ;-)

As a matter of interest did you enjoy Saw? (that is out now on DVD for those who haven't seen it)

@ Cymric

Ja, you can all blame it on Johncena and his Battleraps thread. Now you all have to put up with my occassional ramblings in rhyme. I am only guilty of three so far, but who knows...

@ Blobzie

"...hum,
i got it on DVD,
it’s quite funny..."

Funny ?

Now you're scaring me, in an Annie Wilkes kind of way.

Update: I have the Sin City soundtrack and I am sorry to report that it is fairly disjointed and hasn't had the attention it needs prior to putting on disc. It is like something is missing. Maybe it relies too much on the accompanying visuals in its original form. The main title and closing credits can be joined together with a sound editor to make a very nice track though, but otherwise it is not a very good purchase.
