There is no doubt that cats absolutely, positively, unashamedly, categorically, emphatically and every other kind of 'ically' RULE !!!

@ Gizz

Yup, whenever I see a cat I automatically want to stroke it. I got the same affinity for them as PMC...
Cats are great.

@ T-Bone

Those little fellas are lovely, man!!!
I just wanna pet them. One fine day when I have settled down somewhere and own property, I'll be getting a few pussies too...

Exactly.
And if you throw all the cats and dogs in the world into one big bag, shake the bag vigorously and wait for the fur to settle, I guarantee you the winners will be the ones with the whiskers  :-)

@ Karlos

"..they are called big cats for a reason.."

I know, my good man, and those are very big dogs you posted  :-P

"...Of course. But that doesn't say which ones, given cats and dogs have whiskers!"

-------------------------------------------------------

I know, I was onto a winner there from the start
 :-D

Now look, I've stroked little lion cubs in South Africa, and they are just little kitties. So what if they grow up all big and gruff-like, they're just pussy-cats inside  :-P
But they are still cats. Like Vincent says, bring your biggest dog, and we'll bring our biggest cat...we'll see which one is licking its 'whiskers' afterwards.

@ all those canine collaborators:

Here are a few points to ponder:

1) A dog will lick its balls solely for the purpose of immediately thereafter licking your face.
2) Dogs are known for leaving crap-mines on the lawn, living-room rug, or anywhere else where it is inconvenient. Edit: actually I would say that leaving a turd anywhere exposed to the atmosphere and possibly the shoe of an owner is inconvenient, that is why the cat has the dignity to bury it.
3) Slobbering and bad breath. I'm not saying a cat's breath is like jasmine, but it sure beats a dog.
4) General cleanliness. A house that has dogs in it always stinks whereas you need never realise there's a cat around until it brushes up against your legs.
5) Noise factor. I don't have to explain that one any further...
6) Cats don't hump human legs or shoes. They generally have visitor-friendly behaviour. You never visit somebody and hear them say 'honey, please take the cats outside/round the back'

It's simple, gents.
Cats rule.

I must say that avatar of yours is really nice and I am toying with the idea of giving in and having a kitty avatar too. We can have a feline resurgence here...

@ Gizz

Yup, cats are cool, even in cartoons.

Ja, dogs have many fine qualities, especially in emergency services. There is no doubt about that. And they can be a deterrent (unfortunately that sometimes means visitors too).
But tell me something...don't you agree that an animal that will repeatedly fetch the same thrown stick unconditionally has got to be thick? I mean he should surely cotton-on that he is being had? You won't find a cat falling for that one.
And then there is the the one inescapable abomination: the poodle. Any good that any other dog or millions thereof has done is instantly spoiled by the fur-wrapped snot that is a noise at one end and a dingle-berry-infested smell at the other. When I see them dragging their balls along the lawn, whining and yapping, I want to reach for a stick of dynamite. Fetch that!!

I'll make a deal with you. A mutual agreement witnessed here on AO by all the members. I will select a new avatar for you, a dog of my choosing, and you can select ANY cat you like for my avatar.
Does that sound fair?
( I've seen a French Poodle that I can use for starters )  :-P
