I've been lucky with mine. Had it since 2001 and no problems. I think mine is a revision 4. I only got mine modded because I wanted to play NTSC games too. Twisted Metal Black NTSC version is not censored like the PAL version. IIRC the mod chip also kills the green screen and the region lock.

Is there a difference between playing PAL and NTSC originals? (I haven't got any backups)
