If I were you I would try to organise a two-week holiday somewhere. Then simultaneously organise to have the place fumigated, or the flooring sealed, or any arbitrary thing you can think of. The guest will have to go. Just say 'It's been real nice having you around, but I need to clear the house for fumigation and I know you are making job advances too. Hope you enjoyed your stay and good luck with your new job.'

Yup, sometimes it's best to get She Who Must Be Obeyed to sort it out. I'm all for the woman kicking up a bit of dust every now and then, it is a good sight...and it takes some stress off you too.
