DB9:
Zipstik -> works

(I’d be surprised if any Atari standard DB9 joystick didn’t work)

But : are there ANY USB PADs that are actually working besides the one that comes with the Unit ???
I have found one!  The Logitech Gamepad F310.  It needs to be in "DirectInput" mode, by having the switch underneath on D, not X (XInput).  The "Mode" button also needs to be on (lit up), as it will then use the D-pad rather than the analogue stick (the analogue stick works but - as you would expect for something expecting digital input - is erratic).

It works perfectly on both the A600GS interface and in-game.  The Start button brings up the A600GS menu (like pressing F12) and the A button is the standard Amiga fire button.  None of the other buttons do anything, although I've not tested CD32 games.

The Gamesir Nova Lite gamepad works well in wired mode and also using the supplied USB receiver.

I have also managed to pair it with bluetooth and working in Nintendo Switch and Android connection modes (no luck with DS4 mode).
I purchased a Gamesir Nova Lite controller on the strength of this post, and balrog74 is correct - it works well but with one small caveat.  There doesn't appear to be a way to bring up the F12 menu using it - pressing the Start (or any other button) doesn't do it, unlike (for example) the Logitech F310 I posted about.

It's not a deal breaker as it's a lovely controller, but just means I have to get off my butt (as I'm now using the A600GS under my main TV while sitting on the couch) and press F12 on a real keyboard to bring up that menu.  Just thought I'd post this here in case anyone else is thinking of getting one.

While I'm at it - some fresh info about various other controllers I tried:
  • 8BitDo Arcade Stick for Switch and Windows - does not work (tested Switch and PC modes with wired and USB dongle)
  • Xbox One or Xbox Series S controllers using 8BitDo Wireless USB Adapter 2 - does not work (thought I'd give it a try and this adapter lets me use Xbox controllers on my Switch)
  • Wired Xbox 360 controller - does not work (really didn't expect it to)
  • Zexrow Controller [picture attached] for Switch and PC - does not work (tested wired and Bluetooth; was surprised by this, as you can select different input modes similar to the Gamesir)
