Powered it up last night!
« on: July 23, 2004, 07:51:31 PM »
Hi everyone.  I'm a Commodore/Amiga lover from way back.  I started out with a C=64 somewhere around 1980 I'm guessing.  Things are fuzzy from back then, but I'm pretty sure I bought my first Amiga500 in the 1989-90 range.  I was big into the bulletin boards and warez and eventually upgraded to a A1200 about 2-3 years later.  Some extreemly fond memories of those days in the Amiga communities.  I eventually moved over to a PC sometime around '93 when my work in programming pretty much demanded it at college.  Always kept my Amiga stuff stored away in the hopes that I would get back to it... and... well...

... I powered up the old A1200 last night... dragged out the 2000+ floppies in boxes and started reliving the old days.  Everything still works!!!  I am going to slowly transfer my games over to the PC so that I can make CD backups (floppies just aren't safe enough) and I'm going to give the Amiga an honored spot in my recreation room (it has more than earned it)!  Glad to see that there are so many fans left out there.

I'm toying with the thought of checking out some Amiga emulation software (AmigaForever?) on the PC.  Any feedback on it?  I know there are probably lots of posts on the forums regarding that, but haven't had much time to search yet.  Hope to be active on here.  Later!

Hi BoingBoss.  I'd figure that is a pretty good estimate.  I used to be pretty active on the old bulletin boards (used to co-sysop one actually).  I haven't been able to read enough to get the general feeling on the forums, but I am more than willing to share some stuff once I get back into the scene more.  If that is inappropriate talk on these forums please accept my apologies in advance and I will stick to private messages or e-mails away from the forum.  I'm new and don't intend on ruffling any feathers!

 :-)

Ya know, Tomas... I do have to agree with you there!  I am shocked and very happy to see that all of my equipment and disks are working perfectly so far.  I did keep them stored in a mild temperature and dry environment so I'm sure that helped, but still!  I think the key thing is (as long as you remember to do it) it's a lot easier to burn a duplicate cd every few years than it is to backup thousands of floppies.  :-P
