Cool...

Is there still some place where I can donate to that cause, or has that passed?

Cool, meager donation made, perhaps I'll add more after paying my bills off.

That is what I'm hoping for. It really really pains me that the only present way to really enjoy Amiga emulation (as blasphemous as that is) is via Windows. With JIT we should have that speed boost necessary to run a virtual Amiga environment at speeds that surpass our real Amigas. Hopefully some time after this is finished, someone will come along and add internet support to UAE as well. Another thing the WinUAE guys can hold over us... :/

Heh, I bought an eMac to get into MorphOS cheaply and an Aspire One to get into AROS cheaply, and now I'm wishing I'd saved back a little for both. Mind you, MorphOS FLIES on anything you put it on, especially those old classic apps that don't make direct calls to the hardware, but the eMac has VERY dark screens, low volume, and a meager 32Mb of GFX RAM, which I thought would be more than enough considering that my real Amiga can get by on 2Mb, but apparently I was wwwaaaayyyyy wrong.

Needless to say I'm considering buying a Power Mac Tower, or a Mini Mac with 64Mb GFX RAM, not sure which yet. Also the Aspire One may well go on sell as soon as the AROS community comes together and finds a more suitable Laptop to support.

What caused them to put so much time and energy into the Aspire One in the first place?
I was going by clusteruk's videos on Youtube which made it look like it would actually be a smooth and fun experience, quite contrary to what I've experience, but on the other hand I can now at least see AROS' potential for the first time and can say I've become a believer.

Hey now, take it easy on my 1200 and 600 there buddy! ;)

I'd like to compare my experience to being more akin to running OS 3.9 on an Amiga 500 with 512k or RAM.

Of course this is not a slam towards the AROS community, it's just as slam towards Acer. I should have known better....

On the other hand, running that new AspireOS AROS disto on it has had it's charm, and it does show some of the benefits of running AROS over Linux or Windows in that if you put either of them on the Aspire One, your system will let you know time and time again that even the simple act of opening Notepad is a task and a half for it, where as my experience running things like the various Paint packages, OWB, etc. on here via AROS has been over all pleasant. It's just those more system intensive things like Quake, UAE, and (oh God) Mame on there that really tell me I bought the wrong hardware.

That's it, it is settled, before this month is over, I'm going to find my self a nice AROS laptop that is well supported and does not have a crappy processor on it.

Thankx for explaining things to me.
