Installed MorphOS on my eMac, Now What?
« on: June 22, 2010, 04:59:23 PM »
Very exciting day for me, the eMac came in the mail, MorphOS installed within a few minutes, and it boots in no time at all.

Now my first question, is do I just hold down power to shut down, or is there something I should click on first?

I noticed that my installation looks like a default 3.1 install with no start bar or any of that junk added, so I just want to make sure that I'm shutting down correctly to start with.

Secondly, how do I add an ICON bar or something to that effect for easy access to my apps.

The one in this pic will do, unless someone can advice a better option, I.E. if there is something like ToolsDaemon.

Thankx!

Thankx all, but first things first....

...only my Mac mouse works thus far, therefore only 1 button.

My 2 Button mouse detects, but only moves when booting into MorphOS off the CD.

It would not work during the install, nor has it worked since. Again it only works when booting into MorphOS from CD. Ironically if I boot MorphOS off CD, the Mac Mouse will detect but not work. So the problem reverses itself.

Alright, I had to take my Gaming Mouse off my PC and use it with the Mac, er um Amiga. Now all is well! In fact the gaming mouse feels more at home with MorphOS than it did on my PC, strange.

I will not begin to build my software library, and install them within 30 minute increments. :)

I hope that MorphOS sale lasts till this week's end at least!

Will write more as I go through things.

Once again, this is VERY exciting, it's like the Amiga I waited 15 or so years for, but all for less than $100, minus the registration for MorphOS itself. And on that note, I must state once again that it was VERY wise for the MorphOS team to seek support for inexpensive hardware, seeing as the OS is not cheap, this was a VERY practical move and I think one that will result in more sales down the road.

In regards to the 2Gb or RAM, will MorphOS support that?

So I've heard! Life or Death!

Yes folks, that's the price we are willing to pay to have a new, low cost, Amiga. :)

So I'd like to set up the Emulation for classic Amiga so that when I double click on a classic App or Game, it will load. Also, is it possible to configure this to handle ADF files, I.E. read, or Launch them?

WOW! Thankx and...

...way over my head at this point.

Anyone care to walk me through how to configure this to execute an Amiga 680x0 app/game through a simple double click?

Where is the web page for Fab's UAE? I'm looking to set up WHDLoad on this system...

...assuming that is possible.

Fab's E-UAE is here:
http://morphos-files.net/find.php?find=e-uae

Download and unarchive, then look into E-UAE_0.8.29-WIP4/Bonus/readme.morphos for how to configure it to play ball with Ambient.

Here's a post about troubleshooting the installation:

Thank you, I did as much. Copied the files to where the docs told me to put them, then edited them to match my set up (directories and such).

Could not edit Startup_Sequence because there was none (????), so I made the changes to user start up.

Copied my roms to the roms folder, and now after a reboot, when I double click an ADF file, nothing happens.

And it says:

No file name given for ROM key file and ROM image is an encrypted "Amiga Forever" rom file.

And I've no idea what it's trying to tell me. Of course my ROM file is an Amiga Forever ROM file. Does it want me to rip the real deal off my Amiga 1200 or something?

EDIT: I "think" I got it now. My ADF files are resorting to the Red Screen of death, but I'm getting there.

Will tinker more tonight after work.

Thankx!!!

Alright, well then it's probably because I renamed the 1200 Kick to kick.rom and that's the rom I pointed my 1200 config file to. So could it be that when I'm running an ADF like Giana Sisters that it is defaulting to the 1200 config file and not the 500 one? How does it know which one to use btw anyhow?

Oh, and google what magic key word? :)

@ Piru and TakemeHomeGrandma: What's up with the elusive references? And what is it that you are referring to anyhow?

@Fab: So is there a way to tell an ADF to launch off the 500 config and not the 1200 one?

I'm VERY new to this MorphOS stuff.

@Fab: Thankx man, you just saved me walks on the beach, or memorizing and reciting magical incantations!

Now my questions is, how do I get your script to default to the 500config? I tried putting it above the 1200 one, but now the 1200 option is merely lower in the list, but is still default.

Turns out the Kick Start images are fine, just eUAE complained about them until I corrected the config file. Not sure why it gave the error it did rather than tell me I had the wrong path, but what ever, it works now.

As for Event Double Click and Menu...

...um ya, I kinda overlooked those. ;)

And to think I somehow managed to solve so many Where's Waldo puzzles back in the day.

Thankx again!

So how far can I push all this emulation business anyhow? I've heard I could even install Dopus Magellan II in MorphOS, is that true?!

That's the page I had ran into! I'm glad to know it's for real! VERY glad! I can't imagine using an Amiga like environment without Magellan II.

Now for the bad news.

I went to install Magellan II, something new that it did that I'd never seen before was ask me what web browser I was using, then asking me to point to it's location.

All was well, but then it began to ask me to ASSIGN various paths, at which point I screwed something up and had to abort the installation.

After re-starting it, it asks again for me to point where the Web Browser is, which I did, but then after that the intallation fails every time.

I noticed that Quake II did this. I tried to install it, but when it asked for the CD, it REFUSED to recognize it, even though MorphOS had it mounted just fine. Naturally I had to abort the install, and low and behold, I can no longer attempt to install that without the install failing on me.

What's up with that? Classic Amiga Work Bench never pulled anything like this on me before.

Anyhow, here's the error I get on Dopus Magellan II and Quake II when I try to restart the isntallation.

Line 103

Command "copyfiles"

Error Message: Unable to open file or drawer

This is a fatal error and installation will be terminated.
