PCMCIA 3Com EtherLink III and 1200 drivers...

I picked up a PCMCIA 3com Etherlink III off Ebay so I could put my 1200 on my network. I'm running OS 3.9 and I forget what I need in order to set it up.

Wasn't there a second file too? One called cnet.lha or something?

Ok, I got it and installed in in OS 3.9.

 I then loaded up the Genesis Wizard, selected the driver, left the Unit number at 0, told it network and that I didn't  know the IP...

...and well it doesn't connect to the net what so ever. Am I missing something? My XBOX and everything else picks up with no problems what so ever!

I just noticed the subnet mask was different on the Amiga, so I changed it, still no luck.

I thought these things were easy to get on-line?

I've tested the cable on other devices too, still no luck.

I think the bug only exsists in certain 1200's.

 Anyhow I have boing bag 1 and 2 installed, I've also tried unplugging and re-plugging the PCMCIA card, but no matter what the Genesis Wizard will not detect my IP, even if I say no special config, or special config, what ever that's all about.

My card is definatly on the compatability list, this sux. :/

The instructions for the Genesis DHCP plugin make no sence to me.

Is it possible to use an assigned IP even though I'm using a  router and everything else is on DHCP?

Hmmm yes, sounds really easy, but alas, nothing's working.

First off I got my IP from my router, so I put that as the Gateway on the Amiga, but could not set it to DNS because there was no DNS settings what so ever, unless it's under another name or something.

 Secondly I changed my IP to static, and since my Router hands out IP's such as 192.168.1.1, I set the AMiga to 192.168.1.8 since it is not being used.

 I then saved, rebooted, opened up Genesis, told it to go on-line and it told me this:

 bootpc send sendto
 BOOTTP failed to have an answered (oh but of course)
 route add SIOCADDRT network is unreachable
 3c5890 is now on-line
 could not get hostname for this machine

 So ya, that totally made no sence to me, what's a SIOCADDRT, and why does it say on-line when it's far from it?

Ok, I installed Cardpatch and CardReset.

Then I went and set up Genesis to use my new driver for my Eth card (which has been PC tested btw).
 From there I went into INTERFACE and gave it the IP of:

192.168.1.8

Because my PC is 1.1 and my XBOX is 1.6.

I left DESTINATION blank because I don't know what that is, never heard of it in my life.

I set GATEWAY to the IP adress that my IP gave to my router.

 I set NETMASK to default.

 Then went to RESOLV

 I typed in 68.168.240.2 as my DNS because that's what the tech told me it was.
 I clicked on ADD, the numbers vanished and the space they were supposed to got was used, but they were not visible (prolly because I'm using 32 colors).

 I went ahead and hit OK.

 Tried to connect, it says:

Route_Add: SIOCADDRT: Network is unreachable
3c5890 is now online

 So...

...what am I doing wrong? Is there something I'm not getting because I'm pretty sure I've done everything I've been told.

 I feel like I'm running Linux or something. :/

Ok, if I'm using the Genesis Wizard, what should I put under Router, where it has

IP
Netmask
Router

Seems if I add in a gateway, i get errors when i connect, if I don't add a gateway it just says I'm on-line.

Either way, I'm not really on-line.

How would I go about testing to see if I can at least transfer files from my Winblows machine to my Amiga?

Ok, well they say that your router's IP should start with:

192.168.x.

Well mine begins with

68.171.x.

etc

 So does that mean there is another router IP I should see somewhere?


Also I have a Netgear router. When a computer is connected to the net, the number for that computer lights up in Green on the front of the router, but when I try to take the Amiga on-line, it gets an orange light.
 Is this because it is a 10 and not a 100?

I used the Gateway 192.168.1.2 because that's what everything was set to by default unter the router's Lan Ip settings section.

Now the Amiga seems to try to load web pages, but always fails, where as before it just failed instantly.

I'm not sure if that is the IP, if I login to my router I use a name rather than actual IP:

 So like I said it's kind of hard to say what the IP is as you will see in my picture, if you'll download it from the link above. It's either that or 192.168.1.2. I can't tell, the docs that came with it suck, but unlike my D-Link and LinkSys, it actually works on my PC and Amiga.

 As for buying from an Amiga dealer? WHY!?!?!?! I would have paid 4 times what I payed for this had I gotten it from a dealer!

Ok, it was 192.168.1.1

To get the DNS under XP or 2k you type

ipcfongi/all

in a dos prompt and it tells you all the info you need.


Anhow, I hope this thread helps out some of you who have had problems like myself.
