Finally I've returned to AmigaOS...
« on: July 14, 2004, 08:29:40 PM »
Hi :)

Guess it's time for some introduction. Well...I'm a German, who has left the Amiga scene for a while. But now I'm back. My main interest on the AmigaOS is software development. I've bought StormC 4 for that purpose and it works well :)

There is one question I have...and I hope someone can give me the answer: I'm very impressed by the AmigaOS 4 design as seen on the latest screenshots. Is there any complete(!) AmigaOS 4 theme for VisualPrefs or any other tool? I want to have that AmigaOS 4 look on my AmigaOS 3.9 installation :)

Thanks

Thanks a lot :-)

I hope there are still enough users who need some software for AmigaOS 3.9 (mainly 68k, but maybe I'll try to port my software to PPC). I'd like to develop software for OS 4.0 as well, but I'm completely out of money now and can't buy an A1 with OS 4.0.

One thing I plan to do is to develop a more up-to-date HDBackup for WB 3.9 - one that uses ReAction and has CD-R/W-support. Don't know if this is needed. Well...what kind of software could be useful für 3.9?

Alright then...guess I'll take a look on what other OSes have and try to write some good software for OS 3.9. Since it's a long time ago since I was developing anything for AmigaOS, I'll develop some small stuff first and then I'll climb the ladder step by step :-)

Btw.: I've heard about some problems with ReActor. Unresolved symbols etc. if you compile ReActor-based apps via StormC...how to avoid that? Someone told me to use a special version of CatComp called CatCompRCT...but where to get it? Any idea?

Alright...thanks :-) So...looks like it'll be better to do it the old style - fire up StormEd and type everything by hand...well...thanks god that Reaction is macro-driven through the includes :-D

Stinkor...I had that figure, too...it had the same armor as Mechanek, right? As far as I remember Stinkor was created during the first years when motu became famous...but that's just fadin' memories...

@leirbag28

Thanks a lot :-)

Improving older software and/or enhance it is definately worth a thought. So, I'll take a look and - if possible - I'll try everyting I can to do it :-) And if I can't get the sourcecode, I'll start from scratch and work as hard as possible to produce some great stuff - perhaps I can manage to develop a software title which could become a well-known name in the Amiga-community. I'm also thinkin' of making it open source with a modified version of the GPL. This would make it possible for other developers to improve my work and to get the best out of free Amiga software (and I think FREE high-quality software is and has always been an important thing on the Amiga). If this idea has become reality, there is one thing developers will need: StormC 4 - cuz I think it's GCC port is great and StormC itself has become a standard (well, it was when I left the Amiga some years ago). SAS/C etc. are too old I think. Uuuh...long text...*drinkin'somejuice*
What's your opinion? May this concept help the Amiga (well...I can only develop for classic OS [3.5/3.9]) to survive and to rise up again? My dream is a Microtrash-free world and the Amiga is the only computer system I'd marry ;-)

.oO(hope my English is not too bad...)
