I'm probably one the few is who is not remotely excited by this news. I've always put this guy in the "big on charisma, big on promises, empty on delivery" category. IIRC, he is the one who said Amiga Inc (as they were then) would deliver a new OS written from scratch (but based a Linux kernel) inside five months, when they hadn't even decided what hardware it was supposed to run on.

I also remember being flamed to the ground by the religious zealots who thought I was the personification of evil for casting doubt on their god's promises.  No doubt history will repeat itself...   :-P

bhogget: yes i know, but you know he did actually want a special HW....now its maybe possible...

Possible, maybe, but is it desirable?

anyway i wait for an official statement on his plans and what he will do before commenting any further , but for now i think its a wise choise..

Well, I think he's being brought in to do the same job Gateway had him doing: PR.  Nothing more.

Wake up amiga again...and let it be amiga again not an EMU and not an DE thingy....

I somehow doubt the market has room for a completely different custom platform any more. Things have moved on, and the likelihood of any company, specially one as cash-strapped as Amiga, ever developing a killer machine from the ground up is less than remote.

but then again if they have money for it, they can do both....

Even if he puts his entire personal fortune into it, I doubt they would have the money for such a strategy.

Remember, Collas never delivered anything. He was liked by everyone because he had great charisma and talked everything up big. The only Amiga related thing he ever achieved was a mock-up in a glass case.

There is little doubt Amiga Inc. need a big improvement in their PR, but what they really need is some honest to goodness doers, not yet another  talker.

He is also the one who walked out because gateway would not let him spend and do what he wanted.

Well, when he walked out his role was at an end. He was brought in to keep the restless masses happy and prevent them from giving the Amiga brand a bad name while Gateway decided what - if anything - they wanted to do with it. When Gateway made their mind up, there was no need for Collas any more, so he went before he was pushed. The trouble was that everyone was so desperate to be positive about everything that they refused to see that Collas never promised anything remotely achievable, instead he blinded everyone with a glittering promise of the glorious things just around the corner.

Rumour.

It's entirely possible that this is deliberate rumour-mongering to counter the Garry Hare story, seeing how Collas is so popular with everyone.

Considering the source, it's a distinct possibility.
