No display dilemma
« on: August 15, 2003, 12:04:37 AM »
Recently I wanted to watch a few Amiga demos, so I plugged in my old Amiga RGB->SCART cable (very trusty, I've had it since the 500+ days) between my A1200 and my TV (It's a Philips 28" PAL, can't remember the model name). The TV has got an antenna connector and two SCART connectors. No composite, though.

On EXT1 (the first SCART) - no image. I could see the black screen flicker and change refresh rate when switching between NTSC and PAL in the early boot menu, though. Same with EXT2 - no image, but some kind of signal is coming through.

So, it must be the cable then! But no, it works perfectly with my old A1200 - I get a nice display for both NTSC and PAL on both EXT1 and EXT2. Since I only use the CV64/3D output normally, I thought maybe the RGB connector is faulty. I loaded some doublescan screenmodes, selected Euro72 and selected "use". Switched the monitor to the RGB connector and hey presto, a Workbench screen!

Now, somehow, I managed to _SAVE_ the screenmode in PAL. Don't ask me how - I clearly remember going back to CGX 800x600, but when I rebooted the computer my monitor said "Sync out of range: 15kHz/50Hz".

So, since it obviously doesn't show up on my TV either, I have some nice fiddling around with hard drive swaps between my two 1200s to look forward to (NOT).

Anyway. To make a long story short. My question is: Is there a specific part on the Motherboard that generates the PAL/NTSC signal and can the computer function normally despite this being broke? Could it be the RGB connector? Could it be something else? Since the towerized Amiga is 060 equipped, I want to use that one to watch demos so I'd really like this to work...

@Framiga
Yeah, I was thinking of buying one of those cables. But since the normal RGB connector doesn't produce any image on my TV, I thought the MoBo might be broken in some way. After all, the same cable (RGB->SCART) works well with my other A1200...

Well, the composite->SCART converter worked but now I think my CV64/3D is broken... *sigh*  :-(

Sadly, I don't have access to any other Amigas to try it out in...
The RGB didn't work with my TV but I bought a composite->SCART cable that works. I'm currently in the process of backing up stuff to my spare A1200D.
