At last! Posted from my 4000!
« on: January 10, 2006, 04:06:40 PM »
Well, I am pleased

I've finally got around to installing 3.9, and with a bit of playing I am now posting
this from my Amiga 4000 :)

I ended up buying a new HD to protect my old install, so have
installed 3.9 from scratch, configured by PiccoloSD64 with Picasso96,
sorted out the network on the x-surf2 I bought from gurumeditation last year
and finally have it all working.

I'm chuffed to bits to find aweb open source project has updated aweb,
and who knows, I might try to get involved but I can't promise the one thing
that is needed: time...

Chuffed to bits with myself at being able to remember how to use the amiga, and
I'll be resurrecting as much data off the machine as humanly possible.

Waheeeey!

Thanks for the quick (darn quick!) encouragement!

I need to get a few of my old tools back up and running, and reacquaint myself with the OS but it really is like slipping into a pair of old, worn shoes.  There's a lot of stuff that's new to me, such as AmiTCP, P96 and all the 3.9 goodness, but there's something beautiful about an OS that's so straightforward.  It's a bit like linux without the massive forks and battles between kde/gnome...

Want to install a library?  Drag it to libs: then...  It just makes sense, doesn't it?

next stop: SAMBA!  Let's see if we can get stuff off this in a quick and painless manner.

Heh, it still needs a bit of TLC: the mouse connection is as dodgy as it ever was (you need to lift the end of the connector up to get it to work) and the RTC circuit is no more :( .  I'm guessing that battery corrosion took its toll a while ago :(

oh, and add "audio capacitor leak" to the list of faults, too...

Looks like the motherboard could be paying a trip to new zealand soon?
