Zip to Simm Adaptor
« on: April 23, 2008, 11:47:23 AM »
I found a nice little project on Aminet to create an adaptor to use simms on a device which has zips. Perfect for my new Amiga 500 towering project since the SCRAM 500 uses ZIPs and they are so hard to locate. The only problem is the guide is all in German and I cannot locate an English version. Does anyone here know of an English version, or would there be any kind German people who could translate the guide for me?

ZIP to SIMM Image - Bottom

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :-)

All I have are the project files from Aminet. If I can get a translation for the guide I'll certainly have a crack at building it. I have literally hundreds of 30-pin SIMMs laying around the place. It would be nice to find a use for at least 2 of them. I'd be curious if anyone has ever built it and got it to work.

Time to break out the de-soldering sucker, pinch a couple of 30-pin SIMM sockets from an old 486 MoBo and see if I can't get this thing to work.

Thanks for the translation, even if it is only google. It's seems to be fairly readable.  8-)

This looks a little cleaner...

And more expensive. I'm far too impatient to wait weeks for something like those to be shipped from over-seas. I have a date with some veroboard.

Grrr. Guess who threw out all his old 386/486 motherboards a couple of weeks ago in a house clean up? :pissed:

It's true what they say. You don't need it, until you throw it out. I'm bidding on a 386 board on OZtion at the moment. It has 8 x 30-pin SIMM slots on it. That will do nicely.

I'm just after 2 x 30-pin SIMM sockets. No need for the SIMMs themselves. I still have more SIMMs here than I could ever use.

I'll see how this auction goes first though. It's finished in 2 days. I should be able to get the board for about $2 + postage.

Actually - if you're up to the soldering job, all you need are the pinouts. You just electrically adapt them from one end to the other, that's all. If anything is unclear, I can translate that part from the guide, but doing it all would be 95% waste of time.

If you can spare the space, you should seriously consider using legs into the ZIP sockets instead of directly soldering to the card (yuck).

That's a good idea. I don't like idea of soldering directly to the card.

After reading through the google translated text I've figured pretty much what you've said. It's just a re-wire job. He has all the pin to pin descriptions in the text and google translate did a good enough job for me to figure out what he was doing.
