Are you using the DVD disk to install it?  And is there two sides to it?  I seem to remember reading somewhere that on one side is the I386 version and the other is the AMD64 version.

I believe the regular cd's are the I386 version.

You are welcome.  I am planning on ordering the SuSE 9.2 pretty soon, it has a I386 and a AMD64 as well.  Now that I have a AMD64 processor, I'll be able to try both versions and see which I like.

I know there will be a few minor drawbacks to the 64 bit version, but hopefully soon they will be able to get them to work under 64 bit.

The main differences are:

No support for Smartlink Winmodems under 64bit
No support for NDISWrapper for Broadcom wireless under 64bit
No support for ATI Radeon Hardware 3D under 64bit, though NVIDIA Hardware 3d is fine.

Other than that, there isn't much else of note.

SUSE is a very fine distro, mainly due to YAST being an excellent config tool.
I wasn't aware of those, I have a Nvidia 6800GT so I should be fine there, I knew that flash doesn't work on 64 bit, and the Win 32 codecs for Mplayer don't work, but didn't know about those.

What's confusing to me is I've read that the 64 bit version of Gentoo will only run things made in 64 bit, and can't run 32bit stuff.

Yet on the SuSE site, I was reading up on the AMD64 version and it mentions not only running 64bit but can run 32bit as well.

Makes me wonder if that is the case will I be able to use Flash with Firefox or not.  I'd imagine I'd need the 32 bit Firefox to be able to use the 32bit Flash plugin.
