New EasyNet soon
« on: January 27, 2006, 03:44:50 PM »
A new version of EasyNet will be released on the 10th Feb.

EasyNet is a project with the objectives of providing the users with an easier way to network their Amiga and get online with broadband.

EasyNet has a new Host Manager and the ability to open Shared drives and folders on PCs on the network, with a few clicks.

The program has some ISPs DNS presets added to make it easy to configure for your Internet provider.  Also some router settings presets have been added.

EasyNet now has AmigaGuide help and has context-sensitive bubble help.

The interface has been reworked to make it more fast and more intuitive.  It now dynamically picks up user entry-errors, e.g. errors are highlighted by '!' symbols next to the error.

It has also been reworked to accomodate VisualPrefs and GUI themes.

The previous features such as Wireless Utility and Network card configuration tools remain.

Work is still progressing on the EasyNet Setup Wizard.

The program doesn't use MUI so it's requirements are low.

At the moment an AREXX port is being added and file error-checking to ensure that TCP files are not missing.

See the EasyNet website for screenshots and more information:

@nasty
thanks!

@xeron
It configures AmiTCP similar to Genesis, but with the emphasis on usability.  Unfortunately not many of our favourite Amiga programs concentrate on usability.

With Broadband being so prevalent and home-networking  commonplace, Classic Amigas are falling behind in the ease-to-setup category

Next step after this version will be integrating Apache and Samba into the user interface, similar to the way OS X implements it.

I would recommend Force9 in the UK: www.f9.net.uk

They are particulary cheap, very reliable and have good range of broadband packages.  EasyNet also comes with a Force9 preset in it too, along with Wanadoo, NTLWorld, AOL etc (!)

I've used it on the test A600 here and it works OK.  When the GUI is running, it consumes around 800K so once the network is started, quit the GUI and other utilities can be used

So it should run on an OS 2 A500, if there was a compatible NIC.
