That does indeed sound very much like the trouble I had just earlier, and it got fixed. See discussion here. Of course it might be that you just haven't set the refresh rate to a suitable value; check the manual/specs, a lot of the monitors only accept 56-75Hz.

Which modes don't work? Native modes (scandoubled), RTG modes, or neither?

Have you edited (using a display that works) the refresh rates to something your LCD can definitely accept? 60Hz is usually a safe bet.

It doesn't need to be, you can either use the "Sample data" button to query your monitor for details, or just enter the information manually on the right hand side.

Then after that you can press "Continue" and you'll see a list of the defined modes on the right side and various presets on the left side. If the selected modes have a refreshing rate of something like 100Hz, that is most likely the problem.

Press "Continue" again and you will then be able to edit all of the modes. Basically you just need to turn the "Scan rate" to something like 60Hz (or whatever your monitor supports) and then test the display settings to see if it works.

Do you see something like:

PicassoIV:1024x768(16M, 60Hz, 48kHz)  ?

There will probably be a bunch of these lines for the different modes. It's the value with "Hz" that is interesting, if that is above or below what your monitor can handle, the mode isn't going to be displayed.

You could basically delete all modes except the flicker fixer modes and a couple of the 1280x1024 modes from the list, if it's bothering you that there are so many, but it's not necessary.

In any case you can go on to the last screen with Continue, you'll then be able to select any of the modes in the drop-down menu and change the refresh rate setting. Once it's set to something that the monitor can handle, you can test that it definitely works by testing "Test computed display settings". If you see an image with the offending monitor, you can save the changes, if not, press space or some other key to get back into the editor.

There shouldn't be much cable swapping once you get at least one mode working and set Workbench to use that.

Oh, and "PAL ... 49Hz" would explain why that doesn't work; it's clearly out of bounds for your monitor (56-76Hz).

You need to press the "keep computed settings" (or something to that effect) button and then save all the settings in the menus before you exit. I can't check the exact names of the menu items right now, but you should be able to figure it out. Almost there :)
