Dear god don't put any hack in there for a 1.3 ROM. All you need to do is get a 1.3 Kickstart Disk, and the 1.3 Workbench disk and you're in business. I really hate to these nice old cold computers butchered.
You would be amazed how many great games there are that need 1.2 and 1.3 OS. With a disk based A1000 all you need are the disks.
Add some extra memory, but leave it at that.

Hey @motrucker -

You seen this one?

http://frederick.craigslist.org/sys/4801333959.html

It's fairly local to us. $75 bucks. I've thought about it, but really I'd just pick through the software and throw the rest up on ebay. Have no time or room for another computer right now. But if you like these old ones, might be worth a drive down for you?

I did, but I am still not able to drive - so I can't do anything about it. I would have jumped on it. You're right it isn't far at all (I'm a little closer the you are) My A1000 is still working 100%, in totally stock form. I just need to un-yellow it a bit. Time for a can of Fusion.....

Why?  The 600 came with 2.05 IIRC, and that's a bit large to try to do by disks. With the 500, you could just use a workbench 1.2 disk (if it's a 1.3 ROM) and get away with that. There might be a few small compatibility issues, but for the most part, it would work. But again, why? There would be very few if any advantages.
