I also prefer SCSI drives. It's not like SCSI dropped off the planet. I use a SCSI DVD writer with my old A2000. Didn't cost much, and works great.
On the A2000 it's actually easier than IDE in most cases. On an A1200 it's about 50/50
A2000 GVP 40MHz \'030, 21Mb RAM SD/FF, 2 floppies, internal CD-ROM drive, micromys v3 w/laser mouse
A1000 Microbotics Starboard II w/2Mb 1080, & external floppy (AIRdrive)
C-128 w/1571, 1750, & Final Cartridge III+

Not all new CD/DVD drives work with the Amiga. I've had to return two in the last year and buy older models. For an IDE equipped Amiga, an IDE drive is cheaper, easier to locate, and easier to configure (no termination issues nor conflicting device number, just Master/Slave -- a wee bit into BDSM). :)

Horsefeathers. In all my years of setting up and using Amigas (SCSI) I don't have any problems. And with SCSI you can use many more devices than just the lame ide master/slave.
