Gold Disk Works
« on: May 13, 2010, 09:16:14 PM »
Does anyone have a manual for Works? Mine flew the coupe, and it's been over ten years since I've used it. I specifically need to know how to use Organize!. I really need help!

   Got me. The one I have is an old issue (circa 1986) from Gold Disk Inc. of Canada.
It has Organize! for it's database, Scrbble! for its word proceesor, and Analyze! for its spreadsheet. I know that Scibble and Analyze! were available as stand alone programs. I am not 100% sure about Organize!
I can't track down a word on line, so far.
Since this program was aimed at 1.2/1.3OS I thought I try it on my A1000. I can't seem to get it going though...

      It boots fine, and all the programs load, and run. The problem is that this old data base doesn't use really logical commands. Although I can get Organize! running, I get it to create a new data base.
I have tried every command structure I can think of, to no avail.
I am amazed at the lack of data concerning old Gold Disk Software, specially with the popularity of Pro Draw, and Pro Page!

Let me attack this this way;
Do you know of any good data bases that will run under 1.3? (that can be found?) Relational would be nice, but I can make a flat file system work too.
I found a copy of bBase, that has a few good points, but is rather limited. Any ideas?

@Matt_H
I don't know why I had discounted SuperBase Pro, but I works fine.
I just booted up SB 4 Pro on the old A1000 with 1.3, and it works fine!
I seem to have lost that manual too - but I remember how to use it, so all is well. Damn, even the SB Form Designer works! I'm in heaven. This is without a doubt the way to go.
Thanks for reminding me!

I tried Pen Pal too - it's data section is almost a copy of Final Data from Softwood. It works OK, but believe it or not, It's not Y2K compliant!? It will NOT handle dates past 1999. If I remember right, all of the Softwood programs suffer this problem.
No matter, I'm set with Super Base. Thanks for the help
