A "new" A2000
« on: February 14, 2010, 07:12:38 PM »
Thanks to another member of amiga.org (A very generous member, I might add) I now have a working A2000. Don't get me wrong, I like my A1000. A lot! But man it's nice to be able to use a hard drive! and FFS floppies and (well the list could go on for ever). It's amazing how many disks the A1000 can't read.
I don't have it on line yet - but that will be coming. Let me get back to the A2000 - I am in heaven!
A2000 GVP 40MHz \'030, 21Mb RAM SD/FF, 2 floppies, internal CD-ROM drive, micromys v3 w/laser mouse
A1000 Microbotics Starboard II w/2Mb 1080, & external floppy (AIRdrive)
C-128 w/1571, 1750, & Final Cartridge III+

Have you thought of servicing your A1k drive?

The drive is fine - it's just a limitation of the machine.
I have now collected so many old 1.2 and 1.3 games, that won't run on newer systems that I want to keep the A1000 in its original configuration. It's a nice one - very little yellow (even the keyboard) and right now has 2.5Mb of RAM.
BUT, I am loving this A2000!! Just about have all my graphics software installed.

The A1000 can NOT read or write FFS disks unless you add the routine to your startup sequence. So far I haven't been able to squeeze it onto 1.3 workbench disks due to using a few lib. that are needed by some newer programs. If you have a hard drive, then it's a snap - almost automatic...
You may be surprised to find out how many commercial disks are formatted in FFS!  Almost everything since 2.0 was released.
OFS disks forever?
