How easy to swop 040 for 060 on Blizzard PPC
« on: October 26, 2005, 07:35:44 AM »
Hi All,

Im looking at getting a 200MHz Blizzard PPC (quite cheap) but the only downside is that an 040 is attached and having experienced an 060 at 66MHz I dont want to go back, also context switching will be much better.

What I would like to know is how easy would it be to swop out the 040 for my 060 chip? And where can I get hold of the appropriate 66MHz crystal? I believe they take 8 pin DILs?

Thanks,
AmiBoy

Also one spare unworking bare A1200

@ doctorq

Hi doc,

The 040's are soldered? I thought they were socketed.

If they are socketed then I dont have the necessary skills to unsolder a CPU and resolder a new one.

Is the voltage resultor a 'jumper' or a switch or something else to unsolder/solder

Thanks,
Amiboy
