A600 - internal gotek and boot switcher
« on: February 13, 2018, 09:07:50 AM »
Hi guys!

My first post here, this has probably been done before but I could not find a specific guide. I have recently taken out my old A600 from storage and installed a Gotek in it. At the moment the Gotek is just laying there, I have not even closed the case.

What I want to do is to install the Gotek internally, and keep the floppy drive in place. For this, I need to make openings for USB, buttons and display. I also need a boot switcher. I know that this is harder to do on A600 due to the soldered chips, but I dont need DF1. I just need to switch between floppy and Gotek.

So, here goes:
1. Are there any guides to where a gotek might fit inside an A600? I have found for 500 and 1200, but these have larger cases.

2. Will a switch on the floppy cable 10 (boot select) be sufficient? Do I need to have switch on the power, or can this be routed to both floppy and gotek?

3. Any advice on where to put the buttons and display (oled)? I have found some pictures, but a guide or some more inputs would be nice!

This is my main source of inspiration, though its a A1200:

Hi Acill,

Many thanks for your reply. I don`t really need the floppy, as I barely have any original games. Just wanted to keep it for nostalgia, just the feeling of loading a floppy. If there is indeed no room then I will remove it. The plan was of course to strip the gotek down to the pcb, but maybe it will be a tight fit anyway.

I have seen your thread here and I know you do good work, but I would like to have a go myself. I used to work on electronics, but it has been some years.. so my project with restoring/upgrading my Amiga (recapping, gotek, etc) is as much about the fun of doing a project as it is about the end result itself.

I did like your oled-box though. That is the thing I am most worried about; if I will manage to make a nice integration of the display. Maybe I will ask you for a quote on that. The shipping might be expensive, as I live in Norway.

Thanks for your thoughts anyway!
