Just a *QUESTION*...
« on: September 02, 2004, 12:45:36 PM »
As the topic already says, this is a question and not meant to offend or annoy anyone here!

Having said this I'd like to hear your opinoins on what I found on the page of GOLEM, an German IT-news page for *professionals*:

http://www.golem.de/0312/28816.html

Here a short translation of the first paragraph:

"Genesi: PPC-board finished - 64-bit board will follow

The competitor to A1 MoBo - Pegasos II - available with PowerPC 750CXe

The Luxemburg based company Genesi announced the availability of their new PPC-mainboard, which will be more powerful in association with G3 and G4 CPU's and like its predecessor it is said to be suited for the AmigaOS competitor MorphOS and LinuxPPC.
Furthermore Genesi and IBM are developing a 64-bit workstation based on the new PowerPC-970-cpu, which is also used in the G5-Mac."

Up to now I'm neutral to AmigaOne as well as to Pegasos, although I've been an Amiga user since 1988.
But from this article it appears to me as if the Pegasos development is far more advanced as A1 development.
They are developing an 64-bit MoBo together with the giant IBM!

On IBM pages they're listed as "Ready for IBM Technology"!

How does it come that Amiga/Eyetech aren't listed there with A1?

From Gary Hares speech I already suspected that his focus isn't on desktops systems anymore.

Do I now interpret this correctly - his main interest is the mobile market and if one is just interested in desktop systems he is better off if he follows the Pegasos path (at least in the long term)?

I mean - there was no hint on Amiga/Eyetech working together with IBM. This implies it would be better to walk the other way, as they have a strong and vital company - IBM - behind them (compared to AInc, who were bought by unknown KMOS)!

Again:
This is not an trolling attempt, but a serious question - and I'd really like to discuss this with you on a *FACTUAL LEVEL*!
All the best,

Dandy
