Emergency !!! need to get my RDB
« on: April 15, 2004, 07:54:37 AM »
Hi,

I've got a problem guys :
 - my HD does not want to boot or show its partitions, I guess it's a RDB problem
 - I plugged the disk on a peecee with winuae, worked ok but still no partitions visible
 - I spent the whole night trying every other tool (RDBrev, RDBRecover, Disksalv ...) to try and get back my partitions informations, the only one likely to save me is RDBsalv, which finds easily my partitions avec the whole disk geometry information.

BUT THE DEMO version won't show me the figures it gets !!! Since the author of this tool seems to be unreachable (last version is from 1996), I can't even pay to register.
Besides, I'm in a f**** hurry, I need to access my disk ASAP.

Please help ! kador @ free.fr

RDBRecov should be able to find all of your partitions. And it usually is much faster than RDB-Salv. Just follow the docs. And don't hurry, take the time it needs.

However, the full version of RDB-Salv is on the Amiga Repair Kit CD-ROM.

Bye,
Thomas

I've already tried, sorry, whereas RdvSalv seemed to find my partitions in 1 second (since the rdb is not completly {bleep}ed up, I just had to let it red the first sectors !) whereas RDBRecov scanned the whole disk whithout getting any result !

Regarding the Repair Kit CD :
 - it would take ages to arrive, I'm not in Germany or US
 - it will cost far more that what I'm willing to invest for a simple (it's just the RDB, and it's not completly dead) and one-shot operation (since next time I will backup my RDB to several places)

Same applies to the licence cost for RDBSalv alone, I don't want a full-time-use product.

Thanx anyway

Well, did you try to run HDToolbox to load the RDB, check if all partitions are still there and then save the RDB again ? If RDBsalv can find it HDToolbox should find it either.

I could write a program which lists the contents of the RDB so you can recreate it with HDToolbox.

Bye,
Thomas

If I could, I would ...

HDToolbox and his friends (HDInstool, whatever) cannot find the rdb, it seems to be partly {bleep}ed up, but not totally, sonce RDBSalv manages to get the partition information at the beginning of the scan process ! Maybe the first block is not good, and the other ones OK, dunno. Reading the RDB the normal way does not produce anything.

Edit : still, thanx :-)

Finally, this had an happy end :
 - Thomas's tool find the first partitions
 - I got the rest with Mick's help

Thanx to everybody !
