I use
the mentioned SD card reader in my PCMCIA port along with a CF->IDE adapter internally, and it's the most convenient setup I've had for a long time. I rarely ever use the disk drive for anything anymore. The SD card is plug and play, too, so it works just like popping in a diskette.
