Oops! Low-level formatted my IDE drive...
« on: October 25, 2006, 10:49:44 PM »
... and now I fear it's bricked! Now it just makes a repetititve noise on startup and is no longer detected by HDToolbox. I read somewhere that the information about cylinders, tracks and blocks etc disappears on low-level formatting old drives. Is there a program to reset this information or something?

It was an old 60MB drive anyway. I'm just making sure it can't be fixed before getting a new one.

EDIT: If I get a new one, can I use one >4GB  if I only partition the first 4 gigs? Like, a new 20GB drive is easier to find in a good condition, so I thought I'd get one of those if possible. Also, any suggestions about hard drives? Which ones aren't compatible?

Okay, thanks for the answers. Now, should I get a 2.5"-3.5" adapter to fix a 60B drive or should I just get a new much better one? hehe :P

After using windows for so long I'm just not used to options in the formatting tools that renders your drive useless!

Yeah, it was a pretty old drive, probably from my borked A600HD... Anyway, I got my self a new 2,5" 2GB drive locally for 50 SEK (~5€), and it works like a charm! Thanks for the help everybody!
