Cocolino PS2 adapter and optical mice

Hello! Can anyone provide a short list of optical mice that work with this adapter? The specs claim that it is compatible with "Microsoft's Intellimouse Wheel protocol", but it does not work with my Microsoft Intellimouse Optical. I'm trying to use the original model that closely resembles this unit below but without the extra buttons on the side:

The Cocolino works fine with my Logitech USB (non-optical) Wheel Mouse.

I am using a PS/2-USB adapter on the Cocolino for both mice I have tried, by the way, as I do not think there are any optical mice with PS/2 plugs on the market.

That reminds me...I did try another Logitech brand mouse. It is their "basic" optical wheel mouse and it did not work either! Funny that the non-optical Logitech works okay but not the optical.

I was considering other Logitech optical mice but I just don't like their latest designs. Those ergo-shapes and multiple buttons just don't work for me. I would have been okay with the MX300, but that is no longer available.

This makes the most sense so far, as the mouse I am having trouble with did *not* originally come with a PS/2 adapter. It is marketed as a 'USB mouse' only.

I must correct what I said previously also. Not *all* of my optical mice cease to function with the Cocolino. As it turns out, the Microsoft Optical Wheel mouse is working fine! I somehow lumped it in with the Logitech as having trouble as well. I was so pleased to discover the the MS Optical was working, I went out and picked up a black colored one to match my keyboard, monitor, etc. My original "Wheel Mouse Optical" was white.  

And to answer the other suggestion that power may be involved-- both my working Wheel Mouse Optical and the non-working Logitech optical are rated at "5V, 100mA". Incidentally, I am using the Cocolino with an A3000 desktop.

That is interesting about the "modes" making the difference in this case.

The matter with USB/PS2 adapters is the same as with PS2/serial adapters: the mouse has to support both modes. An USB-only mouse does not work with an USB/PS2 adapter of another mouse. Usually a mouse which did not come with an adapter does not work with an adapter.

I have two Logitech optical mice (one cordless and one with a long tail) and both work without problems. As do cordless and non-cordless mice with a ball. I didn't yet find a mouse which didn't work.

Funny that my google search would bring me an Amiga.org post I originally started over ten years ago. Hah.

I already know that "any PS/2 capable" mouse should work. I am now in search of both an optical AND wireless mouse that will work with the Cocolino due to my reduced work space.

I was hoping my Logitech MX700 (http://stuartconnections.com/products/Computers/Peripherals/Mice/Logitech/MX700_Adapter_and_Receiver/description.htm) would be a perfect fit because the charger's cable has a dedicated PS/2 mouse connection!

No go with the Cocolino, though.

The only other Amiga-specific item I found is up on AmigaKit's site:

but I already have the Cocolino adapter and just not sure if I would like the mouse they have pictured.

Are there any other optical+wireless mice known to work with the Cocolino? I would even consider a different adapter, but I am pretty certain most of the others I have come across would be similar if not identical to the Cocolino, meaning PS/2 support only.

I know I could go full out and get a USB add-on card for the A1200 but that seems like overkill just to support a mouse.

Thanks for the tip. I am also using a PS/2 to USB adapter with my Cocolino. I was surprised my MX700 did not work especially since someone mentioned that the MX1000 worked.

Now with the Logitech Unifying devices I would expect even less compatibility. Isn't that all USB only? I have a Logitech V450 Nano mouse and a K400 wireless keyboard/trackpad combo I could try but with no mention of PS/2 support on these devices, I do not expect success.

Can you tell me the specific Unifying device you had success with?

Don't go that route for a mouse because it won't be compatible with way too many things.

I use a USB to PS2 mouse/keyboard adapter with PS2 to Amiga adapters... works well with the logitech unifying devices.

Ahh, I see! I thought you were just talking about the simple PS/2 to USB adapters that are bundled with mice. Yeah, that one below has a little more going on. And you are right to say it is pricey. Not sure if I want to take it far in that direction, but would be willing to do so on a good PS/2 compatible mouse...if I can find one.

I know I've used the K800 keyboard. Not sure of the mouse model number. I find very little stuff that won't work, but occasionally something won't work like cosair keyboards.

Its an active USB->PS2 adapter and they are not cheap. Its not just some pass-through thing. Its similar to this:

It has its own Amiga serial to USB adapter so I wouldn't need the Cocolino but I have never heard of the Typhoon mouse before. The auction details make it sound good enough I guess. I'm very picky when it comes to mice though so there's no telling from the photo how my hand will like it. I wonder if the mouse itself is something re-branded that I could compare to locally.

I also noticed in the fine print that the power adapter for the charger is not included. Bummer.

What I find unusual is not of lot of discussion on them. Perhaps users are already happy with the solutions they have in place.
