There is one application i would like to recommend:
http://www.whdload.de/Whdload lets you install standard floppy based games onto the hard disk, so you can play all your favorite games on your 1200 without any disk swapping and basicly no load times.
WHDload will also work with many of the old a500 floppy based games that did not orginally work on the a1200 as well.
I am sure there are more games than just turrican :-P
If you want to invest in some upgrades, then i will recommend that you get a cdrom drive and a 68030 or higher accelrator, as this will in my opinion make the amiga much more capable and enjoyable to work with.
