Memory expansion for Amiga 600 available soon
« on: June 08, 2006, 12:53:20 AM »
To a special order from their trade partner AmigaKit, Individual Computers has developed a memory expansion for the Amiga 600.

 The technical data in detail:

- 1MB memory for expansioin to 2MB chipmem total
- battery-backed up realtime clock
- leak proof lithium battery made in Germany
- clockport for A1200 expansions like Silversurfer, Delfina or Subway
- extremely small design

The expansions will be shipped to AmigaKit starting July 3rd, all other trade partners will have the product starting july 17th, 2006. Contrary to announcements of other trade partners, there will be no expansions without a realtime clock. The recommended sales price is 39,90 EUR incl. 16% German VAT.

If you want to order directly, please use the contact form of the website of individual Computers.

The old clockport-adapter (initially made for the Silversurfer) is really incompatible with the Delfina, because the software expects the A1200 address mapping.

The Silversurfer adapter (which only goes on the Gayle chip of the A600) uses a slightly different address mapping. The adapter and this new expansion cannot be used at the same time.

The clockport of this new expansion has exactly the same address mapping as the A1200 clockport, so with an 020 or higher processor, the Delfina will also work, just like many other clockport expansions. Even the Melody (mentioned somewhere in this thread) will work, as software does not have to be patched.

greetings,

BenShep:

The battery is mounted on the back with Velcro tape. The contacts are soldered, so you'll need a soldering iron to replace the battery.

I'd expect the first replace to be necessary sometime in 6-8 years. The self-discharge of this cell is probably higher than the energy that goes into the RTC chip, and this battery is huge compared to other batteries used on older Amiga RTC designs.

The required battery is really generic - you need something between 3V and 5V and solder it to the two points. I'm pretty sure that some energy source like that will be around for the next few decades, no matter where on the planet you are.

The needed current is really small, so I guess even a few lemons with copper and aluminium nails in them will do the job until you find a battery. The OKI chip starts running at 2.4V, and the lower end you get out of a lemon is 0.7V, so tell your local supermarket to set four lemons aside for june 2014 :-)

B00tDisk:

Working on it. I'm doing the first logic tests, and the mechanical parts for proper mounting of the board are already shipped. I can't tell how long to go - could be that it works within the next two weeks, could take another two months.
