I've had some spare time this week so I've cleaned up my DIY tower which I originally built about 19 or 20 years ago.
The front had yellowed and I was never happy with the rear which was really untidy but I was limited by skills and correct tools. I had also mounted the motherboard on the 'wrong' side of the tower.
I cut out the back of the tower and made a new plate plate out of aluminium. I also dismantled, sprayed and lacquered the front.
I reassembled everything this morning, and after a black screen which I traced to the RAM in the Blizzard being loose, everything is back up and running and looking nice.
It's not perfect. There are some dust particles in the paint/lacquer and I messed up the PSU mount on the back, but it's much nicer than it was and assembled much more solidly.
Next steps are to connect the wires using solder and heat shrink and to spray the CD ROM cover and the keyboard case; but I've run out of paint and time for now.
