H/W incompatabilities with Blizzard 1230 MK IV
« on: June 19, 2008, 08:25:30 PM »
I am thinking about digging my DIY-towered A1200 out again and remembed a couple of issues I had. I want to know if these are fixed before I shell out for any new H/W.

I originally had an Overdrive 3.5" external PCMCIA Hard Drive (version which auto-booted) but after I got a Blizzard 1230 MK IV, with 4MB 60ns RAM, the Overdrive failed to boot or mount partitions. If I booted to floppy, the Overdrive couldn't be seen. Holding down the disable key for the Blizz (2?) meant the Overdrive would work. (I now have a 32 MB SIMM in the Blizz)

To try and overcome this problem, I bought an IDE Fix 97 Interface (turns out they were brand new at the time, and had just been released by Oliver Kastl), but this was unstable when using a CD Rom (4x), as any CD activity would hang the system. I was told at the time this was a known issue with a 1230, so I returned my IDE Fix and got a PCMCIA Alfa Data CD1200 Interface. The HD and CD Rom were both powered by an external AT PSU, so not a power issue.

Now, I want to go back to running everything off a proper IDE interface and use the PCMCIA for a Network card. Will I experience any problems? Thanks.
