A600 with that goes thump....
« on: June 06, 2004, 01:50:56 AM »
Hi.  About 2 weeeks ago I bought a A600 at a car boot sale (luckily this one fully works and came with all its Workbench disks bar the Install one).

After a bit of reaserch I have managed to glom a 800MB 3 1/4" hard drive into it and along with a suitable workbench install disk I found on the internet to go with mine I have been successfull in installing WB 2.05.

However all is not well.

If I turn the volume up on my amp a bit after a few mins I can hear a 'thumping' sound, which wasent there before the hard drive was installed.

The hard drive is installed in the case and is powered from the dc input connector.

Could the thumping sound be caused by interferance from the HD, or could things be getting a little warm inside the case and causing trouble?

Thanks for the advice.  The fit inside the case is quite a snug one.  I have had it running allmost all day today terming all my adfs from my PC (about 80 megs worth) to the A600 (at a glorious 1.9somthing KB/s!).  Apart from a few application errors at 8000 0000D (or something like that, can't remember the exact numbers) asking me to suspend or reboot, which the A600 did in WB before the hard drive was installed.  As 2.5" HDs small enough for the a600 are hard to come by in my part of the UK I had to settle for the best I could get.  Anyway its only temporary until I get another A1200 (one with a fully working keyboard!)
