If you think about it for a second, is not that fast. The Core i7-980 @4.5GHz get around 95 GFLOPs compared to Adapteva 16-core at 26 gigaflops. *(even PS3 can do 150GFLOPS, and it has PPC CPU)
I know the price is cheaper but not a breakthrough.
My 4 year old $50 video card does about 500 GFLOPS.
The chip from Adapteva seems to be designed for low power consumption. The performance of the chip may not seem so impressive, but the performance per watt is very good.
