The XCore chip that's used on the AmigaOne X1000 lists on DigiKey.com for $5.60 USD in about 600+ unit quantities.  Excellent bang-for-the-buck ratio!

I am guessing that is the wrong one.  I believe it to be the https://www.xmos.com/products/xs1-l-family/l1lq128 chip as it has 64 i/o lines as mentioned under the Xorro description "...Xena's 64 IO lines..."  The chip you looked at has only 36 i/o lines. This chip is $6.50 for 500+ unit quantities ($0.90 more). Which isn't much extra cost for the additional 28 i/o lines.
