CS MKIII jumper settings
« on: April 13, 2010, 07:06:03 PM »
I'm just removed my Cyberstorm MKIII from my Elbox tower/mediator setup I'm going to sell and installed the CS MKIII on My A4000D (CR, rev D model) set both jumpers to EXT on the A4000 mobo but the miggy won't boot...the screen just gets a bit lighter than pitch black after my indivision logo has dissapeared
The CS MKIII was working when it was in my tower system and I have had a CS PPC in the A4000D
I know the A4000CR models is a bit different than the standard A4000 (different mobo layout) so maybe the jumper settings are different?

Do you remember what the screen colors mean at boot up? So your saying the screen turns dark grey? I think that means CPU problem.

I'd say very dark grey or light black :D

I have a hard time believing the cpu fast slot suddenly went belly up

Does the A4000 Rev.D motherboard work with just using the on-board 68030 cpu (jumpers set to INT)?

Yep

I'm having some progress, I've pressed the board more firmly into the cpu fast slot and can get it to boot if I do a warm reboot after the black screen..I get a red guru meditation but after another reboot it boots fine :P

Maybe a firmware upgrade to your CSMKIII would resolve the issue? That is, assuming you are currently not running the latest one.

It could also be that the card itself does not make proper contact with the motherboard's cpu fast-slot.

Finally, go to the CSMKIII early boot menu and see if there might be a setting there that you could potentially change/tweak, in hope to resolve this issue (like something in regards to the uw-scsi bus, or memory related, etc.).

ahh...success

I cleaned the CPU socket with CRC Electronic Cleaner and now it boots sweetly :)

The socket must have gone dirty or something while this A4000 was stored for 3 years in a cupboard at my old appartment.

I did blow the sockets clean with canned compressed air before my troubles started to be sure that no dust had accumulated in the sockets

I upgraded the firmware on both my CS PPC and CS MKIII back some years ago when I was really fanatic about Amiga hardware and could have signed up as chief for the club of "who can collect the most Amiga hardware in 6 months" hehe
