Help me identify this classic game (picture included)!
« on: March 12, 2004, 10:52:26 AM »
Hi all,

My CD32 finally arrived yesterday, so I am now an offical Amiga owner again after years in the wilderness following the death of my A1200. :-D

Anyway, I have been busy downloading classic PD games to play, and there's one that I used to LOVE, but I cannot remember the name of it for the life of me. If anyone could help me identify it, I would be forever in your debt!

It was a sapce-game, and my space-ship was round, and stayed in the centre of the screen. Moving the joystick made the screen rotate around me. There were all sorts of other Spaceships and asteroids to shoot - it has loads of levels. The predominant colour of the title screen was yellow, as I recall. I probably got it from an Amiga Format cover disk or the subscribers bonus disk. Here's how it looked (from my memory) :-

It's driving me nuts trying to remember what it was called, and instead of trawling through AmiNet downloading everything in games/, I thought I would turn to you fine people - someone, help an old Amigan now returned to the flock!  :-P

Many thanks in advance,

-Mark

Looking through the Amiga Format index at http://amiga.emugaming.com/aformat.html. Does "SpaceWar" ring any bells ? There seems to be a few matches on Aminet, but I'm at work right now so can't check....

Yes! Thank you :) It was Transplant. My memory was obviously hazy - the main spaceship looks nothing like my drawing! But the rest of it is exactly as I remembered - I'm off to download and burn onto CD tonight :) Thanks for solving that mystery!

Transplant rocks. It's hard to say exactly why it was so addictive - it just has that certain "X" factor. The graphics were somewhat basic, but the gameplay was awesome - the enemy ships really seemed to posses some form of intelligence. From what I remember, there were some big ones that took several shots to destroy - usually accompanied by smaller ones that would swarm at you. I used to actively hate them. It also had a huge number of levels - I seem to remember it going up to 100 or so. It's one of those games (along with Spatial Hyperdrive and Top Hat Willy) that consumed hours of my youth. It makes me go misty-eyed just thinking about it...

Next step is to get a SX-1, and try my hand at my old DPaint skills (used to do graphics for a scene group in the UK). Another thing that used to totally absorb me  :-D

Yeah, I remember Stardust. Was it ever released on CD32 ? Just trying to build up my collection...
