As whoosh777 said, it may not be dead. If you leave it on for a while and it still doesnt work, try removing the hard disk and shake it rapidly in a cirular motion laterally around the centre. I had the exact same problem and turned out the rotors had ever so slightly seized and simply needed to be shaken into action again. After that, every now and then it wouldnt boot from cold, but would work after a warm boot while on. Had to simply press amiga+amiga+ctrl when i got the purple screen.
re: pirating. I guess so long as you bought it new and have not transfered you WB licence by using amithlon/UAE etc etc you would still be entitled to install the same WB back on it from any source. But im no lawyer...
