Arrgh!!! I've only read this thread. But it suddenly dawned on me what you are saying in regard to MS and IBM. The point that reached me is that MS could extend the current PPC chip architecture with their own .NET CLR compatable core for their Xbox 2 console. This would be similar to the Java processor that Sun once wanted to make, but also be PowerPC compatable. Or at the very least they could extend the PPC's integration with XBox's graphics processing, maybe imbedding some DirectX capability. EEEEK.....
It sounds like IBM are now going to allow anyone to do that. Why let MS monopolise on this too? Pity we can't put Amiga custom processing in a PPC. Or can we? Maybe, if it were possible, this would put us on a level playing field.
You never know, maybe 3d companies like NVidea will introduce their own graphics logic in there and this PPC based Amiga thing, could pan out afterall, in a couple of PPC generations.
Its interesting that PPC is the processor of choice for the consoles right now, and this change in IBMs PPC policy would make it seem ripe for modifications to such chips for the benefits of performance in the games market.
Man...I think if Commodore was still alive and a player they'd be jumping all over this for a new Amiga. Yeah, I'll dream on.
