Looking to get my Amiga 1200 recapped (USA)
« on: February 03, 2018, 11:46:22 PM »
Howdy from Florida, USA!

Long story short, I'd to get my Amiga 1200 recapped and I'm looking for suggestions / recommendations for an experienced person who would be able to do it. I noticed that Amiga Kit offers this service, but I'm located in the USA so sending it to someone in North America is preferable. I consider my 1200 to be the crown jewel of my computer collection and it's important to me to make sure she is well preserved. I can do some basic soldering myself, but Amiga is the Cadillac of vintage computers IMO and I'm a shade tree mechanic at best. Thanks -Clint

Thanks for the info, I'll contact him and see if I can get onto his waiting list.

Not even in the same category.  He recaps SMD computers using TH components, has no way to test them, and often sends previously working computers back to the owner in a non-working state.  Don't even dare using MacCaps if you love your Amiga.

If you are going to send to Acill, make sure you ASK him first before sending.  He's got a huge backlog of repairs in front of him right now, and recently stated he isn't going to take any more for the time being, until he catches up.

Thanks!

I did the hello from Bradenton FL thing since my understanding is that the Amiga was more popular in Europe. I figured it was likely the first reply would be from a Brit who may have missed the (USA) in the thread title LOL.

Thanks, I will keep this in mind. My 1200 is my vintage computer pride and joy and I want her to outlive me. I'll take a look at my mother board and as long as it is not in danger I'll wait for Acill.
