Considering Sony stopped stocking Blu-Ray drives and mainboards for first generation 60GB PS3 consoles only 3 years after the initial introduction, this time period can't be that long.
Sony is still a functioning company (just about) and only needed to keep parts around until the end of the warranty period (then sold remaining parts to third party repair companies I imagine) - Commodore died, leaving warranty parts festering around the world that were never used to fix/replace dying A1200s (or A1200s turned out to be very reliable).
