Graphically; Agony, Apidya and Project X have to be up there.
But gameplay wise? Some of the classics might fare better. R-Type, Uridium. To be fair I didn't have many Amiga side-scroller shooters though.
Definitely the german clone of R-Type from Factor 5 : Katakis !!
