Recap Amiga 500 necessary?
« on: August 15, 2017, 07:30:24 PM »
Hi,

To keep my Amiga 500 and Amiga 500plus future proof, would it be necessary to recap this computer like with a A1200?

I have recapped my A1200 myself and a recap of a A500 looks easier.

What about the original power supply units? Are there recap kits available for the Amiga power supply units? When a power supply unit fails, could it damage my computer?

I also have a couple of good working 1084 monitors. Is there any need to recap a monitor?

I wouldnt say its easier, the boards take a lot of the heat away and make desoldering the old cps difficult. I would do it if you want to be 100% sure it will last. That being said I have also done a lot of the other components on my 500 and 2000 boards as well as caps.

As for the PSU, 100% yes!!! Those things are old and I have seen several kill machines as a result.

Hi,

Thanks for your answers.

Do you sell recap kits for the power supplies and A500 boards?
