A Real DVD/CD Burner! (nearly fried my miggy!)
« on: November 01, 2005, 12:22:52 PM »
I wired up my CD Audio last night to the motherboard of my Amiga 4000/40.

I wired the 3 pin input in this order (looking from the front of the Amiga) Pin 1 White Pin 2 Black Pin 3 Red.
Everything sounded great, the correct audio coming from both channels.

However I decide to install a different CD Player software and decided to try Compact CD Player, (from AmiNet), I selected the scsi.device and set it as unit one in the prefs, and it burnt out my DVDRW/CDRW drive!

I must of done something wrong! Anybody know what?

I have a spare to put in it's place but I don't want to do the same again, I don't think it has anything to do with the CD Audio, but I suspect it might have to do with my choice of device as the my DVDRW/CDRW is a IDE device...

Any advice would be great!

Update, I know now that the Audio Input wiring was correct.

Another update;
I have put in a new CDRW drive all is fine.

I can only guess my old DVDRW/CDRW was on it's way out!

@ jkirk

Cheers dude!  :-)

Its me made realised how hot my 4000/40 gets, as I have been keeping an eye on it all day.

I have just fitted a powerful case fan to it, as although I had fitted a better one then the standerd one in the PSU, I don't think that really was doing the job, on it's own.

Do all A4000/40 run hot? mine must had been doing so for years!

I have it running for quite a few hours now, playing mods from the CDRW Drive almost constantly and, it's only getting slightly warm now.

The areas that were getting hot were the Harddrive the CDRW and of course the CPU, but you could touch them.  They were not hot enough to burn you.

I think the problem was poor ventalation, my A2508 RAM Expansion board don't help as it takes up a lot of space, also my 1084S sits on top of my 4000/40, but since fitting the case fan, things are a lot cooler!
The outer case always used to be warm to the touch, but now it stays cold.
