Hi

BTW, which Kickstart you are using ?
You should have at least OS 3.1 or it will be very hard to find/set-up the required tools to get into the net.

Hi

It's quite simple to check the version of your Kickstart and Workbench:
Open a shell and enter the command "Version".
It should tell you the version of your Kickstart and the Workbench. It tells you a number between 33.xx upto 45.xx, here is a simple list of the version numbers and the according OS versions:

Version == AmigaOS
33.xx == 1.2
34.xx == 1.3
35.xx == don't know, ought to be the never released 1.4
36.xx == 2.0
37.xx == 2.04
38.xx == 2.1 (not shure)
39.xx == 3.0 (only A1200 and A4000, maybe CD32)
40.xx  == 3.1
41.xx - 44.xx == ???, 3.5 must be in this range
45.xxx == 3.9

Hope this helps.

Hi

Have a look at ebay for these parts or maybe vesalia (www.vesalia.de), there I found:

Disk-set OS 3.1 (Workbench, Locale, Extras etc.) -> 9,90 EUR
Kickstart ROM 3.1 for Amiga 500/600/2000 -> 19,90 EUR

Hi

@Brutus

Yes of cause you can. But you should really have a turboboard and much memory, at least 8MB will do it, but some additional ram might be usefull if you don't want to close all programms when you start the browser.

@lordnicon

You should have a look at the german eBay pages (www.ebay.de), here are the network cards a little bit cheaper and easier to find (I think), I have looked for nearly a half year for a cheap one, and with some luck I gained a ZEUS ConneXion 10Mbit ethernet-card for less than 30 EUR incl. shipping (Ok, I've never seen such a cheap card again :-) ). But if you are willed (correct vocable?) to pay upto 60 EUR you should have a network card in two or three weeks (incl. shipping), but remember to ask the seller if he is willed to send it to UK BEFORE you bet.

Hi

> Ethernet board X-Surf 2 Ethernet 10 Mbit" the only thing in it costs £60.09
> which is a lot (ok its new but still) is this a good idea getting this or
> should i look for a cheaper one

The X-Surf 2 is a new card which is still supported (the manufacturer is still in business) so it will also be supported by the coming OS 4.0 and could be reselled at a higher price than other cards, but I couldn't give you an advice to buy or not to buy.
The advantage of this card is also that it uses tp-cables and not BNC as the older ones.

If you don't want to wait long, buy it.

> you might find that your accelerator (a2620) won't be compatible with the 3.1 ROMS
> unless you upgrade the roms on the card too

Never heard of such problems, but who knows ? You might anyway look for a faster turboboard depending on what you wish to do with your Amiga. If you really want to use it for eMail and surfing and running "actual" software, you should try to gain a fast 68030 or a 68040. If you just want to play around, your A2620 might do it and I would test that, before I buy a new accelerator.

> what do you have Ethernet board X-Surf 2 Ethernet 10 Mbit then

???? What ????

Hi

Yeah, that's a quite good accelerator -- don't know anything better for an A2000 and the price is ok, I think.
A quick search presented me this seller http://www.mrhardwarecomputers.com/data/ac.htm that has this card but this one is more expensive.

Also couldm't add anything to cart, you should try to send an email.

> i have a small problem finding a CONNECTR for the psu

What do you mean (I'm just a stupid kraut, my english is not the best) ? A cable for your power-supply-unit ? How do you tested the "version" command without voltage ?

Hi

Ok, I understand...I don't see a chance to get this kind of connector anywhere, you will have to cut of the one of the A2000-desktop's PSU :-(
I would use an AT PSU -- if available -- you don't need the 3.3 V line of the ATX PSU and power-on/off might be a problem...

@JC

> I had an unexpanded A2000 with 2.0 Roms that I managed to get online

Respect, but it doesn't sounds funny, speed must be something simular to my first contacts to mailboxes in the late 80th using my A1000 with a 1200 baud modem :-D

@cyberus

> lol @ 'stupid kraut' - does anyone actually say that?

I don't think so, but "stupid german" does really sound stupid, doesn't it ;-) ?
