Oh looky, troofers!

Debunked

As to why people disbelieve "conspiracies", the answer is quite simple: Many us sat through the first wave of this crap and watched as the troofer movement concocted ever more elaborate and unsubstantiated nonsense which basically boiled down to the following:

  • Muslims are too stupid to be able to read, much less fly planes (Also it was teh ebul jooos)
  • They want star treck to be real (holographic planes, fricken layzeer beams)
  • Can't be bothered to take the time to read the NIST report and so make shit up.

While that is an interesting website, it is by no means a peer reviewed one,

From dictionary.com

Quote

peer –noun
1.
a person of the same legal status: a jury of one's peers.
2.
a person who is equal to another in abilities, qualifications, age, background, and social status.
3.
something of equal worth or quality: a sky-scraper without peer.

Or perhaps you're demanding that it be looked at by a member of the landed gentry?

Interesting that you haven't demanded a similar standard of evidence of the OP's video.

Quote from: TheBilgeRat;642917

unless you take peer to mean like-minded anti-conspiracy conspiracy theorists.

Heh, nice Adhom attack.

There's a reason why stuff like this shows up on youtube, in fact there are a few articles within that site that explain why. Hint: It's the same reason anti-vax and alt-med types use it.

You know darn good and well what a peer reviewed article is.

The forums attached to that site do provide a very effective reviewing mechanism. When challenges from those within the movement have appeared on other sites that test the veracity of claims made, often you will find responses to them.

But the quip about the land owning gentry was pretty funny!

Ta :D

Quote from: TheBilgeRat;642957

I thought that was funny!

I'll write it off as a sense of humour failure on my part :)

Quote from: TheBilgeRat;642957

My point much earlier in the thread was that there is truth somewhere in the middle.  If you are the type that thinks that the US Government is not above questionable acts to justify a war (Lusitania, Gulf of Tonkin, Pearl Harbor, Lend-Lease, Texas Raiders), then let ignorance be your shield.

I'm really not. But at the same time I have very little time for the troofer movement as a whole because of their basic method of looking for facts to justify their beliefs and ignoring all else is toxic to the wider discussion. Any hypothesis must be based on all of the available evidence in order to be considered a theory, not something built up of cherry picked and or deliberately misconstrued evidence to shore up pre existing beliefs.

As far as Franko's comment goes, I take the view that there are precious few absolutes in this world. Anyone attempting to define reality in terms of black and white will miss vast amounts of detail.

Quote from: TheBilgeRat;642957

Was Osama CIA?  He was assuredly trained by them.

I agree, the problem I have with this, is the automatic assumption that he continued to be.

Quote from: TheBilgeRat;642957

Were the towers rigged?  Who knows.

Highly unlikely. If you read the full NIST report (which if you do manage to get through it all, I will personally buy you a pint - it really is that dull) you'll realise why too. One of the things that it highlighted is that it's quite possible that several of the assumptions made by the engineers who constructed it may well have been wrong and as a result could imply that many other skyscrapers aren't nearly as tough as first thought.

Quote from: TheBilgeRat;642957

Did the US government use that attack to destroy what little civil rights we had left (USA PATRIOT) and go to war to secure oil interests in the middle east?  Absolutely.  So, being a vet of that stupid war, I could care fuck-all about the towers, honestly.

Absolutely agreed, and this is what I was talking about when I mention the toxicity of the 9/11 for truth movement. Whilst they're busy fapping themselves blind over magical sideways cutting thermite, fricken layzeeer beams and all the other wacky nonsense they've come up with, they have completely ignored the very real and very dangerous (imho) consequences of the attack itself.

The biggest problem I have with the troofers though is that as a result of going into that movement, with it's pre-requisite of suspending disbelief, is that many ended up going on to evangelise for the above mentioned anti-vax and alt-med groups.
