We use Auslan and Australian Sign English here, but I don't know anyone else who signs apart from my parents who live on the other side of the continent.

I've met fellow internerds from other forums there, but again the same thing happened that always happens, they got all weirded out and walked off.
Ah, see this is where I think you might be going wrong, a lot of nerds have pretty piss poor social skills themselves. That and most people as assholes (yes, the irony in this statement doesn't elude me).
It's not just being deaf that makes me weird and antisocial though. Plenty of deaf people are outgoing and seem to have no problems making friends, I'm just an oddball.
Given the reaction to your previous comment, I'd say you've a few friends on this site.
On the bright side, you have deafness to account for difficulties with your speech, I only have the excuse of being born in Plymouth
