Seriously though, Winter Solstace (Yule) is December 22nd, but yes the Catholics did exactly what was described by others here - they moved the birth of their saviour closer to the pagan tradition so as to fit in more with the locals and gain more members.

But today I think I would speak for nearly all neo pagans when saying the following:

I don't care that you shifted your holiday to the date you did, so long as you are generous and kind to those around you during the holiday, preferably carrying on this spirit as best you can throughout the rest of the year. I know I shall try to.

I hope you all have a good Solstace one and all :-)
