Yes it is scsi.device like the 600. I'm not sure why it doesn't work on yours and both of mine are early prototype version 1 so I'm not sure how to help further. You are booting off of the WB Installation floppy correct? If you are using a CF adapter on the end of the ribbon cable make sure to supply power to it (IE: from a floppy connector). My system wouldn't supply power for the CF card through the data cable like some PC controllers will.
